My family has lived on the North Shore for almost 30 years. I have an adult son that lives off Chesterfield with his girlfriend and an adult daughter that lives with a disability and is still in my home. I see the work that Councillor Buchanan has done in the City, both with efforts to create and sustain affordable housing and her work in advocating for accessibility and I see a potential future where my children can flourish. Developing an inclusive and connected community for all is top on her agenda, and mine!
- Gail Ritter, Parent, North Vancouver Resident
I never really considered how inaccessible our community was until I met my sister-in-law. She is legally blind and I have been with her and experienced how frustrating it is when areas, events and programs are simply not inclusive to people with disabilities. Councilor Buchanan has worked hard to identify these issues in the City and I see progress being made and accessibility considered in some of the newly developed areas in our community. I work in a doctor’s office off Lonsdale and I now see that as our population ages, accessibility concerns will be at the forefront of everything we do. The issues are all too obvious and we need a Mayor, like Linda Buchanan, who has shown a commitment to accessibility as this hot topic needs to be addressed within every council decision moving forward. I believe Linda Buchanan has the desire and integrity to advance inclusivity in our community.
- Emily Surine, City of North Vancouver Resident
I am proud to write this letter of support on behalf of my family for Linda Buchanan. Our family has known Linda for close to 25 years as a friend of the community and an advocate for our community, the Squamish Nation. Linda is a strong proponent for healthy living within the Indigenous community. We remember her fondly as a community health nurse whether it be at the Eslha7an Learning Centre to support youth, adults, and elders in programming to enhance their daily living habits towards a better life or at the Mother Bear Program providing family support to new mothers and infants. Over this time, my family has become very close not only with Linda but with her children. Through school and sport her children and my nephews and nieces have become close friends. Linda and her family are part of the North Shore Eagles Lacrosse program and we consider ourselves all one family. As a school trustee, I was able to witness Linda’s strength as a leader and appreciate the decision making skills she possesses. As a leader she is open, takes the time to listen and understand and knows that regardless of what decision needs to be made it has to be done in a thoughtful process. Linda has the ability to interact and communicate with community members of all ages and does not shy away from conversations or challenges that she may face. I find that Linda is an individual that wants to be inclusive and support all within the community. Since I have known Linda, she has always been a champion of City of North Vancouver. She is a very genuine and caring individual who wants to see the City continue to be a place where we all can strive to be the best that we can be. As the City moves forward, it will be Linda’s leadership that will allow the City to prosper. It is without hesitation that myself, and my family, fully support Linda Buchanan to be the next Mayor of the City of North Vancouver.
- Brad Baker and family from the Squamish Nation
I have known Linda since 2008 when we both were elected as Trustees to the North Vancouver Board of Education. I enjoyed working with Linda and learning from her passion and knowledge of children and families and creating healthy school communities. With students as her focus Linda did not shy away from making difficult decisions that were instrumental in supporting better learning outcomes for students. As Linda moved onto City Council she continued to foster a collaborative working relationship with the Board of Education and I saw firsthand her passion, inspiration and leadership contribute to an inclusive, healthy and vibrant community for all ages. It is because of this vibrancy that after 29 years in the District my husband and I moved to Lower Lonsdale. As empty nesters, we love the walkability of the neighbourhood to the shops and services, transit and Jack Loucks Court. Linda’s passion for community will continue as Mayor and I have no hesitation in encouraging the residents to vote for her on October 20th.
- Franci Stratton, City of North Vancouver
Linda Buchanan is a pillar of the City of North Vancouver Community. I have personally known Linda for over 20 years. As a youth worker I have had the honour of working beside her as a public health nurse, and have witnessed her caring, and giving nature. As a a City Councillor, I have watched as she listened and heard the voices of her constituents, brought their issues to the table, and advocated on their behalf. Our city is much better because of her contributions. I fully support Linda Buchanan as the next Mayor of the City of North Vancouver for she has proven over and over again her abilities as a leader in our community.
- Helen Marshall
Over the past 13 years, I have worked alongside Linda in her role as public health nurse on the North Shore. In addition, our family has called the City home for the nearly 30 years. Linda’s strengths lie in her genuine interest in engaging with people and listening and learning about their interests, concerns and needs. She is a principled leader who is thoughtful and logical in her decision-making. She is reasoned and researched, thinks critically and comprehensively and consistently demonstrates through her leadership, both within public health and her political roles, that listening to people is only the first step in working together. Linda is acutely aware of the challenges we face as a community and has repeatedly demonstrated her ability to make tough decisions in favour of fiscal responsibility and a healthy, sustainable community. I believe that Linda’s commitment to being Mayor is grounded in her genuine deep passion and caring for the livelihood of the citizens and the community of the City of North Vancouver. We will all be well served with Linda Buchanan as our Mayor.
- Sue Foster, Public Health Nurse, City Resident
I have known Linda for over a decade now and have followed her path closely and watched her develop into the remarkable leader she is today. Linda's first political work was with our North Vancouver School District as a School Board Trustee. Linda was instrumental in supporting new curriculum initiatives, as well as in making the difficult decisions needed to replace outdated schools with new seismically sound, 21st century learning environments for students for years to come. These decisions also provided far greater community amenities such as child-care, after-school care and housing for young adults with disabilities. Linda's work in the City of North Vancouver as a Councillor has been commendable. The City has prospered from Linda's contributions. I admire her for her concern to remain fiscally responsible while balancing the social and economic needs of our community. I know Linda will make a wonderful Mayor for the City of North Vancouver.
- Cam Watt, City of North Vancouver Resident
I have known Linda since her time as a School Trustee on our School District's Board of Education. In that role, and in her many years since as Councillor for the City of North Vancouver, I’ve watched Linda work tirelessly for our community. She brings a wonderful combination of long term vision, pragmatic thinking, warmth and humour to everything she does and to everyone she meets. There is no doubting either her commitment to our City or the skills and experience she brings in making a community that works for young people, families and seniors. I am delighted to know that someone of Linda’s calibre and capacity is running for Mayor of North Vancouver City and know that we will be in very good hands.
- Don Maunders, City of North Vancouver Resident
As the former CEO of Seaspan, one of the largest employers on the North Shore, I had the pleasure of working with Linda along with the rest of the Council over the past eight years. What always impressed me about Linda is her leadership skills, most notably her ability to listen and her honest, thoughtful and pragmatic approach to supporting ALL the residents of North Vancouver. I look forward to watching Linda as Mayor of the City of North Vancouver use those qualities to continue to create a vibrant and healthy community for all of us to live and work.
- Jonathan Whitworth, Retired CEO, Seaspan
As an immigrant young woman who started her life with its challenges in North Vancouver from 1987, I would not be the person I am today if it were not for the caring and compassion of people like Linda. She quietly and tirelessly looks out for so many unheard voices who hope for a better quality in life. Our City thrives because of her leadership and inclusivity. Linda’s personal dedication, strength and attention to the community’s well being is admirable. I will be voting for Linda for mayor in October.
- Kamelia Abadi, City of North Vancouver, North Shore Advisory Committee on Disability Issues

I have known Linda Buchanan since her election to City Council in 2011 and more recently as a fellow Board Member of North Shore Neighbourhood House. Linda has always demonstrated a firm commitment to being actively involved in improving her community. Linda possesses those qualities that make her both unique and highly qualified for public office, a great listener, firsthand knowledge of community needs, professional experience and integrity.
- Tony Nardi, Past Chair North Shore Neighbourhood House Board
My wife and I were referred to Linda in her role as a councillor to assist with an issue our family was facing. Our situation was sensitive in nature and she handled it with professionalism, care, and compassion. She connected us to the appropriate people and followed up to make sure we had a satisfactory outcome. Our family cannot thank Linda enough for her commitment to service in our community and for her work in creating a safe, healthy environment for citizens of all ages.
- Josh Henderson, City of North Vancouver
Linda understands that arts and culture are fundamental building blocks for a vibrant, thriving community and have the power to reduce barriers, cross boundaries, and facilitate strong community connections. Over her years on council she has been actively involved in supporting arts and cultural organizations and individuals to help nourish a rich community of creative thinkers who make North Vancouver an interesting and exciting place to live and visit. As Mayor, I know Linda will continue to be a passionate ambassador for the Arts in North Vancouver. I have no hesitation in encouraging you to vote for Linda as our Mayor in the upcoming election.
- Carol McQuarrie, Past Member Public Arts Committee, NV Community Arts Council Member
Linda Buchanan is a trailblazing community builder and politician who I have had the pleasure to work with. A hardworking and committed politician who has demonstrated through her leadership role in revitalizing Ridgeway School, that she understands how to align stakeholders, and remove obstacles in creating a vibrant and truly livable community. Linda’s passion and deep knowledge of what makes cities great, combined with her collaborative leadership style is exactly what is needed to unlock the challenges faced by the City, the North Shore and the region.
- Carla Guerrero, North Vancouver Resident
Linda is a City of North Vancouver ‘lifer’, born, raised and educated through secondary school here. Her career as a public health nurse, her extensive community contribution as a school trustee, and years as a City Councillor have prepared her very well to serve us as Mayor. She has a proven track record of positive, progressive service. Linda has played a key role in the revitalization of my neighbourhood, where I live, work and play. She's a leader in transforming Lower Lonsdale from one of the least desirable residential and business areas on the North Shore, into the jewel it is today. I urge all City voters to elect Linda Buchanan.
- Doug Ausman, Ausman Business Management
I am thrilled to support Linda as the next Mayor in the City of North Vancouver. Over my years as a council watcher and housing advocate, her independent reasoning has repeatedly impressed me. I admire her thoroughness, courage to make the difficult, unpopular decisions, and of course I welcome her genuine interest in the affordable housing which is such an acute need in our community. Linda is a collaborator, stands up for what she believes and gets the job done. I will certainly vote for her because she has the both the energy and experience on Council required to be a good Mayor. She will represent us all very well.
- Donna Stewart, City Resident, Past Community Housing Action Committee Member
Linda has been an advocate for children and families her entire career. As a public health nurse and as city councillor, she has always brought family issues to the forefront of her community and motivated the City to develop its first Child, Youth and Family-Friendly Strategy. As a result, children are now part of the city planning process and there are more child-friendly public spaces throughout the city. As Mayor, I know Linda would make it her priority to continue to serve children and families in the City of North Vancouver.
- Jillian Glover, Founder, This City Life

As Mayor, Councillor Buchanan will bring to the position her years of experience, dedication and competence as a council member and as a member of the North Vancouver City community since birth. From our experience, we have found that Councillor Buchanan is very approachable and takes the time to listen and to reply. She is also a person of presence, a person who can speak just as comfortably and effectively one-on-on as to an assembly of people.
